The Ontos was rejected by the US Army but embraced by the US Marine Corps. Although thinly armoured it proved itself during the street fighting in Hue. Armed with six recoilless rifles it was used to great effect blowing holes in buildings and walls allowing infantry to progress. The Ontos had thin all round armour that could be penetrated by heavy machine guns, another problem facing the Marines was that they had to stand in the open to reload its weapons.
