Patrol Boat River (PBR)

During the Vietnam War the US formed the Brown Water Navy. This Naval force was used to patrol the rivers and inland waterways of South Vietnam. The US soon realised that the North Vietnamese were using the waterways to transport troops, food, weapons and all other manner of supplies. The answer was the introduction of various types of river craft. The PBR was a light weight fast patrol boat that packed a heavy punch with twin 0.50 calibre machine guns mounted on the front, a single 0.50 calibre machine gun on the back plus usually an M60 machine gun and grenade launcher. This boat was mainly used for stop and search activities but could be used in all manner of other roles. This iconic boat was also featured in the film Apocalypse Now.
